Les meules antiques de Champagne-Ardenne

Abstract : The study of more than 260 Roman rotary querns and millstones from the region of Champagne-Ardennes reveals that their sizes and fittings were standardised. This finding coincides with observations often made elsewhere in France for the Roman period. The standardisation of these grinding tools is also seen through the choice of rock-types. The distribution maps by rock-type reveal their spheres of distribution.
