Détection précoce des infestations fongiques et entomologiques dans les environnements intérieurs

Abstract : Early detection of fungal contamination or insect infestation in heritage sites is a major challenge for preventive conservation. During their growth, moulds produce volatile organic compounds (VOCs). These, diffuse through materials such as walls, tapestries, wallpapers... and can be detected in the air, even when growth is hidden or at a non-visible stage. The calculation of a Fungal Contamination Index (FCI) based on the presence of some of these VOCs can be used to diagnose whether fungal development is ongoing or not. Insects also produce VOCs during their development from the larval stage, thus a new Insect Infestation Index (3I) is currently being experimented. To carry out the in situ monitoring of spaces linked to these fungal and/or entomological problems, the Scientific and Technical Center of the Building (CSTB) has developed a biodetector that integrates the sampling, the analysis and the index calculations. The CSTB conducts its research in collaboration with the LRMH, the Louvre museum, the CICRP and the BnF. The industrialization of the system is ongoing by Bioguess, a subsidiary of the CSTB.
