Galop sec des câbles inclinés des haubans de pont : Étude expérimentale de la bi-stabilité en régime d'écoulement critique

Abstract : This work deals with an experimental study about the aerodynamic behaviour of real cable sheaths. It focuses on the impact of surface irregularity of smooth and rough sheaths on critical flow. The first step consists of macroscopic and microscopic surface characterization of cable sheaths before proceeding to full scale wind tunnel testing. The results show strong spatial correlation of the circularity defect, unlike the roughness which is not correlated. The tools developed and used in this work (proper orthogonal decomposition, bifurcation diagram) demonstrate the impact of the circularity defect on the bistable phenomenon which is associated to dry galloping of stay cables. This influence is characterized by the enhancement of temporal and spatial correlation of the bi-stability along the cables. By using the same tools, the energy of eigen modes with respect to bi-stability was evaluated on inclined and noninclined cable configuration. Additionally, these experiments show some similarities between the aerodynamic behaviour of rough and smooth sheaths.
